Best Router Table 2021 – Top 10 Solid and Sturdy Reviews

Last updated on February 28, 2021 By John

Best Router Table 2021

The first-ever handheld router was invented in 1915 by Oscar Onsrud and his son Rudy, their design used compressed air to operate at 30,000rpm. We have over 100 years of development and in that time the router table has been well established and is now a common choice among professionals.

Finding the best router table when there are over 300 router tables available to choose from can make choosing the correct one difficult and you will need to look closely at the features, design and the build quality to ensure you end up with the right one for the work you need to carry out.

The material of the tabletop will play a big part in the performance of the table and that has a knock-on effect on the quality of your work, a good solid metal base, for example, will create lower vibrations whilst working which will help you produce a cleaner more accurate job of the work you are carrying out.

The material that the adjusters are made from should also be of a high-quality build that will stand up to constant and heavy use and don’t fail you.

The table should be very very stable with a good solid flat platform to work on without a sturdy base the work will really suffer and you will most likely waste a lot of time and wood through going offline or not obtaining a clean route.

One of the more important considerations is the ease of which you can adjust the fence this will save time and help you work with less effort and when you are spending long periods working on the router table.

Always double-check that the mounting plate will allow for the fitting of the model of router you have or choose one with a universal mounting plate, some mounting plates come without any holes and you just drill your own to the size of your router with a template provided.

Some of the tables come with a vacuum attachment for fast wood dust removal this not only keeps the work surface tidy and visible but is really beneficial for your health as it’s well known that wood dust is bad for your lungs.

To help you find a high-quality router table we have researched everything from the quality of the build and features to analyzing thousands of professional and hobby users experiences to weed out low quality and poorly designed tables leaving only the very best and highly reliable router tables that won’t leave you with buyers remorse and out of pocket.

#1 – Bosch RA1181 – Best Professional Router Table

Bosch’s RA1181 is a successor to the 1171, a very popular cabinet router table from the German manufacturer.

This one is a benchtop model and comes with a few cosmetic upgrades and some very useful functional additions,
that make it a meatier choice for seasoned woodworkers and hobbyists alike.

Quintessentially Bosch

As you unbox the RA1181, the first thing that comes to your mind is that the build quality is phenomenal.

There’s a lot of metal (aluminum) on the table with just a hint of melamine on the faceplates.

But that’s not a biggie. You’d be looking to swap the faceplates after a few years anyway.

It looks stunning and has a compact footprint that’s ideal for small workshops.

The work surface is 27-Inches wide and 18-Inches deep and comes with rails to attach the fence and the feather boards.

The aluminum fence is 4 7/8” tall and 25-1/8” in length. That’s perfect for large stock.

The two feather boards allow you to secure the wood for jobs that require added stability.

Makes life easier in the workshop

Once you set it up (an hour’s job at best), you will find that the Bosch RA1181 is designed for ease of use.

You can easily mount and dismount your routers. Adjust the fence and guides in the blink of an eye.

The adjustment knobs are large and easy to grip even with sweaty palms.

It comes with an integrated vacuum port that allows you to hook up your HVAC system. The fine sawdust will be gone in a jiffy. A few larger pieces might stick around and make their way under the table. But that’s not a deal-breaker.

The RA1181 also comes with a circuit breaker and a switch lock-out safety feature that prevents curious kids from switching it on when you aren’t around.

Warranty: 12 months manufacturers

Price range: Low-Mid

Verdict: The Bosch RA1181 is a near-perfect design backed up by an industry-leading warranty. This is one router table that you will love to work on.

#2 – Kreg PRS1045 – Best Portable Router Table

The Kreg PRS1045 is a complete router table set that includes the router table, the tabletop and heavy-duty steel legs on lockable casters.

It’s everything you need to get going with your routing jobs in one easy-to-assemble package.

Moreover, you can easily move it around your workshop which avoids the need to haul heavy wood stock to the table every time.

Sturdy work surface

The Kreg PRS1045 features a 1” thick, laminated MDF tabletop that’s flat and extremely smooth.

Two heavy steel inserts under it give it added support and prevent it from sinking under the weight of your router.

It does not come with pre-drilled holes for different routers, like our #1 pick, the Bosch RA1181. Instead, it comes with a 3⁄8″insert plate that needs to be drilled for your router.

If you hate greasing your elbows on tasks like these, you can always buy a compatible, pre-drilled insert plate online.

The PRS1045 has three plastic throat inserts with different sized openings for the bits. Locking and unlocking these is easy, courtesy a tool that’s included in the package.

Micro Adjustments made easy

One of the features on the Kreg PRS1045 that we loved is the T-track (made of aluminum) that allows you to use additional Miter Bar accessories, feather boards, and the likes.

When you install the router table fence on the track, it looks somewhat similar to a T-square fence, parallel to the slot for the miter bar. That’s cope cuts made easy for you.

The fence moves freely and you can square it to ensure that it’s at the perfect 90-degree angle to the table.

Kreg also throws in a micro-adjustment knob. And this is the first one that we’ve come across that’s not overly complex.

A dust collection port and a finger guard complete a well-rounded feature list.

Warranty: 12 months manufacturers

Price range: High

Verdict: Despite the slightly higher price tag, the Kreg PRS1045 is completely worth every dollar that you spend on it. It’s sturdily made, durable and extremely easy to use. Can’t ask for more.

#3 – Bosch RA1171 – Best Router Table in Mid Price Range

The RA1171 is the wildly popular predecessor to our #1 pick, the RA1181.

This is an extremely well-built cabinet-styled router table that’s almost like a clone of the 1181.

The only notable difference is the work surface and weight. This one has more MDF than aluminum and weighs 42 lbs.

That’s not to take anything away from the quality of the workpieces that you can produce with it though.

Heavy-duty laminated MDF

As we briefly mentioned, the RA1171 is mostly made of heavy-duty laminated MDF. Don’t get thrown off by that. It’s not particleboard.

MDF usually rivals aluminum in durability and longevity.

Moreover, the router plate, where the router will be mounted, is made of cast aluminum. It gives you a stable surface that can absorb the vibrations of a heavy gauge router.

Even at this affordable price tag, Bosch doesn’t cut corners.

An aluminum rail allows you to easily install the split fence, which is made of two MDF panels that can be adjusted to precision, even when using larger bits.

A dust-free workshop

One of the best features of the RA1171 that separates it from other budget-priced offerings is the integrated cabinet. It does a great job of collecting the dust and keeps your workshop dust free.

You can connect your vacuum to one of the two dust collection ports and clean everything in a jiffy.

There’s a T-track to connect two feather boards that secure the workpiece and a plastic guard that ensures that your fingers stay safe and prevents dust from flying into your face when you work.

Warranty: 12 months warranty

Price range: Low-Mid

Verdict: At this price point, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better table router. It’s a reputed brand and the router table has a proven track record. Can’t go wrong with it.

#4 – Kreg PRS2100 – Metal Router Table

An industrial-grade router table at a pocket-friendly price is a pipe dream that many a manufacturer has promised but failed to deliver.

Kreg almost pulls it off with the PRS2100.

This is a brute of a router table with a capacious 16” x 24”, vibration resistant tabletop.

Be it chopping, sanding, trimming or more precise tasks like shaping, holes or contours, the PRS2100 stands its own against units that cost 2x as much.

Strong metal base

The Kreg PRS2100 stands on four wide-stance steel legs with rubber feet to ensure stability.

A spacious, butter-smooth, MDF tabletop and an anodized aluminum fence allow you to work unhindered.

There are cam clamps that lock your fence in place when you move stock through it. We felt that these were not stable enough and moved on a couple of occasions when we applied a wee bit more pressure than normal.

An easy workaround is to use C clamps to secure the fence. A tiny niggle really.

Full-sized router insert plate

Another first for a router table at this price point, the Kreg PRS2100 features a full-sized insert plate.

Three-level lock rings that are included in the package allow you to insert and lock any router into place.

That means that you can even use an industrial-grade router with this one. More rings can be purchased if need be.

Also, while enclosed cabinet designs keep the area dust-free, they tend to be noisier than open designs like this one. This will allow you to work in peace without waking up the neighbors on a weekend.

Warranty: 12 months

Price range: Mid

Verdict: Despite a few tiny niggles, the Kreg PRS2100 provides you with a smooth and stable work surface. It’s easier to adjust and quieter than some of the other models in this list of best table routers. Highly recommended!

#5 – Skil RAS900 – Best Universal Router Table

Despite being around for almost a decade, the Skil RAS900 still manages to outsell a lot of newer, fancier models.

That’s because it is one of Skil’s best designs so far that includes some of their ‘smart’ features.

Like an easy-folding system, multiple feather boards to hold the stock in place and a universal mounting plate that’s compatible with a variety of routers.

Lightweight, MDF surface

The Skil RAS900 comes pre-assembled taking the guesswork out of the assembly process.

It features a lightweight, laminated MDF working surface that’s flat and smooth. You can move your stock without any problems whatsoever.

The adjustable laminated MDF faces are kind of a letdown even at this price point.

Despite what the manufacturer wants you to believe, wood will warp and get worn with use. At the bare minimum, an aluminum fence would have ensured that this can hold up well over the years. But you can’t get it all, can you?

For what it’s worth, Skil also includes two feather boards that allow you to keep your workpieces stable.

The router mount is a quick-release variety that allows you to mount and dismount the router within seconds.

Smoother curved edges

Skil throws in a bit height adjustment gauge that makes repeated, accurate cuts possible. Also included is a pin and guard starter that makes it easier to get your curved edges right.

And when you are done working, you can fold the legs and it all neatly stacks into the container, that doesn’t stand more than 10-inches tall.

b

Warranty: 12 months manufacturers

Price range: Low-Mid

Our verdict: The Skil RAS900 is a very good budget-priced router table for hobbyists working with lightweight pieces. The build quality is not as good as a professional table. But the folding design and the portability make this a worthy contender in this list of best router tables.

#6 – Craftsman – Router Table Combo

We’ve been working with Router tables for long enough to know that all-inclusive designs usually come with multiple tradeoffs.

The Craftsman Router Table and router combo have the least of them.

It is a sturdily built router table with a good quality router thrown in for good measure.

At this price point, it is a very good deal for anyone who doesn’t want to go through the hassles of building their own table.

Ready to use

The Craftsman combo comes ready to use. Set up is easy and you should be all set to work in about an hour.

The first thing that you’ll notice is the 9.5-amp router. This is a very powerful unit that has a 1 ¾ HP motor under the hood and tops at 27000 RPM. It will make short work of thicker wood stock.

Further, there’s a 1 1/16” thick, MDF laminated work surface that gives you a whopping 334 square inches of space.

Put those 5-feet long pieces on the table and work without getting cramped.

Adjustable fence with micro-adjustments

The Craftsman router table features an adjustable fence that can extend up to 2 inches, allowing you to fit larger bits if need be.

You can also make fine, minute adjustments to the cutting depth for precision-demanding tasks.

Last but not least, the table has an integrated 2 ¼-inch dust port that allows you to connect your vacuum for quick after-work cleanup jobs.

Warranty: 12 months

Price range: Mid

Our verdict: Our only concern with the Craftsman table and router combo is the build quality. This is a table for beginners at best. It will not be able to withstand the wear and tear of regular, heavy-duty woodwork. If you are on a rigid budget and looking for an all-inclusive model, then this is one of your best bets though.

#7 – Chicago Electric Power Tools – Benchtop Router Table

This is an entry-level, table and router combo from Chicago Electric Power Tools, a manufacturer known for its budget-priced products.

With a set of basic features, it is clearly aimed at hobbyist woodworkers.

But it’s a pretty sturdy unit. A great pick if you are looking to hone your routing skills without paying through your nose.

19-gauge steel construction

The benchtop router table features 19-gauge steel legs that keep it rock steady during work.

There’s a composite tabletop with a smooth, flat work surface. Sadly, there are no casters. So this one stays put right where you install it.

Powering it is a 1-3/4 HP plunge router. Plunge routers are generally preferred by woodworkers who are not looking to perform advanced woodworking tasks.

Having said that, it makes using the router for tasks like inlay patterns, chamfers, mortising and coves much easier than a fixed base router. You can preset the cutting depth and plunge the bit to precision.

b

Safe and easy to maintain

The Chicago electric router and table combo have a quick stop electric brake for those unexpected instances where your stock decides to move on its own.

Additionally, there’s a plastic guard that keeps the dust out of your face while allowing you to keep an eye on your workpiece.

A dust collection port ensures that you can clean the workplace easily after you are done.

Warranty: 12 months manufacturers.

Price range: Mid

Verdict: Complete value for money! The features and the quality make this a great buy for this price. Beginner woodworkers, as well as hobbyists, would be hard-pressed to find a better all-inclusive deal.

#8 – Grizzly T10432 – Best Metal Router Table

Grizzly has gone from a little-known brand to one of the most popular machinery brands in the United States.

This T10432 router table with a stand is a testimony to the quality of the products that these guys churn out like a habit.

The A-Frame steel stand

The Grizzly T10432 is a complete set that includes a heavy-duty steel stand that’s about 33” tall. Just the perfect working height if you ask us.

Some tabletop models place the router too high for comfort.

The work surface is 1-3/8″ thick and made of an MDF core laminated with melamine. The edges are tough PE and this can easily withstand the vibrations and wear and tear.

It features a split fence with a precision machined aluminum mounting bracket covering an MDF core.

It may not be as durable as an all-metal frame. But to be fair, we spoke to a few users who have owned the T10432 for years. There hasn’t been a single problem to complain about.

There are T-slots for mounting additional jigs and feather boards.

b

Universal Mounting plate

The router comes with a 12″ x 9″ universal mounting plate (plastic, not aluminum) and you should be able to drill holes for your router with ease.

Some users have mentioned that the mounting holes are closer to the starter pinholes than they expected.

A cheap and easy workaround would be to buy a pre-drilled mounting hole for your router.

Warranty: 12 months manufacturers.

Price range:  Mid

Verdict: The Grizzly T10432 deserves a spot in this list of best router tables for the build quality and the feature set. It may not be a professional router table. But it doesn’t aim to be one. Beginner woodworkers will have no reason to complain about this.

#9 – Goplus Electric Aluminum – Great budget Router Table

The first thought that came to our mind when we saw the Goplus Electric Router is, ‘Can you really get a reliable router table at this price?’

The last thing that we needed to add to this list of best router tables was a cheaply made gimcrack.

But it turns out that you can. For this is a very popular unit with DIYers and weekend craftsmen.

All-aluminum construction

Despite the surprisingly low price tag, Goplus throws in an aluminum deck on four heavy-duty steel legs.

That’s a step-up from cheap particleboard work surfaces.

The table stays secure and stable even when you are working on reasonably heavy stock.

Has a weight capacity of 40 lbs. We’d not go beyond 35, just in case. It’d probably sag if you try to stretch the limit.

It comes with a universal router plate with pre-drilled holes to match most routers. Clamps are provided to secure the routers that don’t fit.

The quality of the fence is nothing to write home about. But that’s an easy replacement. We wouldn’t fuss over it too much.

Great features

We particularly liked the grooves on the work surface. That’s a neat addition and keeps the sawdust away, allowing you to move your workpieces freely.

Also included is a bit height gauge that works fine for jobs that don’t require micro-precision.

By the way, the table comes with an extension. It will probably require some additional reinforcements. But hey, that’s fewer hassles as compared to building one of these things on your own.

A dual switch outlet and a safety guard complete the feature list. Not bad at all!

Warranty: 12 months manufacturers.

Price range: Low

Verdict: Unbelievable price tag on the Goplus Electric router table. The all-metal construction and the neat set of features rival much higher priced units. If you are looking for a ready-to-use stand and router for your arts and crafts stuff, then look no further.

#10 – XtremepowerUS Deluxe – Cheap Bench Top Router Table

Our last pick in this list of best router tables is the XtremepowerUS Deluxe Bench, as they call it.

This is a great little table and stand combo for the price.

It comes with steel legs, an extendable work surface and an aluminum mounting plate with pre-drilled holes.

34” long work surface

With the extensions, the XtremepowerUS table gives you a 450 square inch work surface made of durable aluminum.

Work mainly with long stock? This has you covered.

Like most budget-priced tables, we did find that the extensions aren’t the sturdiest. Some minor, inexpensive reinforcements should do it a world of good.

The tabletop has grooves, just like the Goplus Electric router and you will find that most of the sawdust gets accumulated in them during work. Well-thought-out addition.

To top it off, it comes with a dust-collection port which makes after-work cleaning easy.

For routers with a 6-inch diameter plate

The XtremepowerUS router table is compatible with routers that have a 6-inch diameter base plate.

It comes with pre-drilled holes that you can line up and screw. You can always use the clamps provided in the package to secure the router to the plate if the holes don’t line up.

b

The split fence with the built-in guard keeps your workpieces stable and allows you to make a variety of cuts with ease. Also thrown in is a push-out pocket fence for joinery.

The router table comes with a built-in scale that allows fast indexing. There’s a miter gauge as well for the angled cuts.

Warranty: 12 months manufacturers.

Price range: Low

Verdict: Overall, we are mighty pleased with the design and the features of the XtremepowerUS router table. It’s hard to expect more at this price tag. The only possible quibble is the quality of the split fence. But that’s an easy replacement for any newbie woodworker.

Router Table FAQ’s

Mounting Plate:

The best option is to either find a router table with a universal base plate or one that comes not pre-drilled but gives you a template for drilling which will allow you to fix any router to the mounting plate. Always double-check to make sure the mounting plate will fit the model of the router you have.

Base size:

Many people are unsure which size table they should opt for and you should choose one that will be able to handle a good sized piece of board luckily many of these tables can manage a respectably sized work-piece and are not limited by the fact the table is smaller than the workpiece. Look closely at the recommended maximum size they can hold and work out what size pieces you will be working on.

Base material:

There are various materials that the manufacturers create the tables base from, wood and mdf are often used and are adequate for routing without no problems they won’t last as long as a steel base but it’s easy enough to replace a wooden base so it’s not a major problem.
A steel base will offer you a slightly improved performance as there is it lowers the vibrations from the router through the wood your working and they have a longer working life too.

The base features:

It’s an advantage to anyone utilizing these products to make sure the table has good quality fences, T-slots and mitres as these will help improve the table’s safety and usability through better control of the workpiece.

Fence and fixing points:

These are very important to look closely at because if these are inferior in material quality or design they will not last long and will waste a lot of time if you have to keep fiddling with them trying to fix your workpiece so there is no movement. Over time this will get frustrating and can totally overshadow any good features of the table.

Warranty:

This can be the difference between money well spent and wasted money always choose a table that the manufacturer has stood behind with a good warranty period and the terms and conditions of returning the router table.

Dust Removal:

This is not a make or break feature because you should always wear a dust mask and relevant PPE whilst routing as the amount of dust that is sent into the air can seriously damage your lungs.
It doesn’t always take a long time working in wood dust to feel the negative effects on your health and some materials can give off cancerous dust so it’s very important to take wearing a dust mask seriously.

Portable or fixed table:

The portable versions are incredibly useful for professionals on the move and normally used on workpieces of a smaller size. It’s very important you find a solid and even floor to work from with a portable router table.
A fixed table will be able to accommodate larger workpieces and are much more sturdy due to being fixed in place. They are normally higher in price but are also of a larger size so it makes sense they will be more expensive to manufacture.

Safety:

Always ensure your table is set up on a flat and solid floor any movement whilst you’re in the middle of routing could be seriously dangerous a router will go through skin and muscle very easily whilst it’s spinning at thousands of revs per minute.
Take the time to set up your router table before you start making sure the workpiece is locked in with no chance of slippage.
Dust is the most common cause of damage to users health when using a router, many times you can’t see how much wood dust is in the air and it can clog the lungs and cause serious long and short term health problems.
If you haven’t got safety goggles on whilst you are working you are risking serious damage to your eyes it only takes a millisecond for a bit of debris to be fired out of the router bit and into your eye and you will wish you had taken 20 seconds to put your goggles on.
Ear defenders are beneficial for long term router users as the tools are noisy by nature and the damage to your hearing can sneak up on you over time.
Always take 5 minutes before you start to get geared up with the correct PPE because you may think it is a waste of 5 minutes you could be working instead-but, in the long run, it will actually save you time and much more importantly it will save you lungs, eyes or hearing.

10 Best Drill Presses [ 2021 Reviews ]

Last updated on January 16, 2021 By John

Best Drill Press 2021 Intro

You can’t get better than a drill press for stability, power, and accuracy, no portable power tool can best the drill press in these categories owing to it’s fixed design and winding wheel gives you total control over the drilling process like no cordless or corded drill will.
There is a lot of choice for these products and to find the best drill press you have to wade through the finer details, specifications and the verdicts of unbiased drill press users who have used them over long periods of time, to do this we have trawled through thousands of users experiences to help paint a clear picture of the overall performance, the quality of the construction of the tools.
We have reviewed 10 of the very best looking closely at performance, reliability, features and the quality of the construction, weeding out the poor performers only leaving the better ones that justify their price by providing high performance and durability so you can find the right one for the work you need to carry out with it.

Here is the list of the Top 10 Best Drill Presses in There Category

#1 – WEN 4208 Drill Press – Best Low Priced

We have started this guide with the best value for money product and the WEN, without doubt, wins in this category especially when you consider the price.
The WEN 4208 is a pocket-sized powerhouse of a drill press that will impress you with its phenomenal build quality and great performance.
The compact size and reasonable price tag make this a great choice for home workshops. It isn’t a commercial drill press like number 5 on the list but its much cheaper and the Delta drill press would be an overkill for most people.

The 4208 is a sturdy little 8-inch drill press. Bolt it down to a level surface and it doesn’t wobble a bit.
There’s no play in the handles either. That’s a lot to do with the cast-iron construction.

Despite that, it weighs a pleasant 30 lbs. You can easily tuck it away into a corner for storage after use.

The 1/3 HP induction motor that powers the drill press is a beast.

This can easily drill through tough metal, bore through wood and do almost all basic tasks that you’d expect to do in a small workshop.

It has an 8-inch swing and a 2-inch bore. Depth can be preset for repetitive tasks.
It is a five-speed press with a low of 740 RPM and a top speed of 3140 RPM. Adjusting the speed is a little cumbersome due to the pulley system. But that’s not a deal-breaker.

Also, this might get bogged down if you look to bore through dense stock. This is not a professional-grade press.
½ inch Chuck with on-board storage

The WEN 4208 comes with a ½” keyed JT33 chuck that accepts a variety of bits with up to a ½ inch shank.
The dedicated on-board chuck storage is a neat addition that ensures that you don’t misplace it. And it’s easily accessible for on-the-job adjustments.

WEN 2 years manufacturers warranty

Our verdict: The WEN 4208 is a great choice if you are looking for a pocket-friendly drill press for home use. Can it replace a heavy-duty professional best drill press? Probably not. But if you are looking for a reliable and durable unit for hobby tasks or light drilling work, look no further.

#2 – DEWALT DWE1622K Drill Press – Best Portable Drill Press

Now on to the higher-priced Dewalt for a very impressive drill press.

The Dewalt DWE1622K is a lightweight, portable mag drill press that comes with a dedicated storage case and a bunch of useful features that make life easier in the work-space.
It is aimed at the more selective DIYer looking for more power in a compact package.
Easy Bit Changes
The DWE1622K is designed for easy operation even when you are placed precariously on a high beam.
The 3-point grip handle releases at the press of a button and can be attached on both sides of the tool.
Ditto with the machined steel Weldon chuck. You can release it and change bits in the blink of an eye.
We did find a wee bit of play in the chuck. But that’s expected for a budget-priced mag drill. This is not a drill that we’d use for engineered drilling tasks anyway.
The 10-amp motor offers it plenty of juice for routine tasks. On days when you might overexert it, the overload LED light starts to blink. The best part is that the drill won’t stop dead on you in the middle of your drilling task. It will continue to run for a few more seconds before it stops automatically. The LED turns red at this point.
Just allow it to cool down for a while before restarting.
Ideal for a variety of cutting tasks.

The Dewalt DWEK1622K can work with an annular cutter for a diameter of 2” and up to ¾ “with a Weldon cutter.
The coolant bottle can be attached to any convenient metallic surface and rigged to the press head through a tube.
Everything can be neatly tucked into the tough, blow-molded case that comes with it.
Our verdict: Top quality mag drill for home and small workshops. It comes with an industry-leading 3-year warranty as well. I can’t ask for more.

#3 – WEN 4210T Drill Press – Strong Framed

Another WEN in the top 10 and this one is in a slightly higher price bracket but it does justify that higher price.
The 4210T is a slightly bigger and meatier option than the #1 pick in this list of the best drill press.
It’s quintessential Wen. Built like a rock, as stable as they come and lots of power for the size.
Despite all this, it comes at a very affordable price.
A brute of a press
We love the cast iron construction of the WEN drill presses. It gives it so much more stability than flimsy, cheap ones.

It almost eliminates the wobble completely even when you are working at the top speed on tough material.
The 4210T comes with pre-drilled holes to mount on a workstation or bench.
It is powered by a 3.2 amp 1/3 HP induction motor that packs a punch with its performance. It doesn’t bog down even when working on denser stock and rarely overheats.
As an added bonus, it is quieter than some of the other presses on this list.
This is a five-speed press by the way and it has a low speed of 600 RPM and a top speed of 3100 RPM.
Rack & Pinion Height adjustment system
Just like the 4208, the 4210T also features the 1/2-inch chuck with JT33 taper. It’s compatible with a wide range of bits. And there’s on-board key storage.

The 2-1/2” depth stop with an easy-to-read measurement bar gives you the accuracy you seek during repetitive tasks.
The table has a rack and pinion height adjustment system that allows you to move it up and down with ease. This has a little play towards the side. But it’s not so severe that we’d call it a deal-breaker.
We found the X-pattern laser a little difficult to adjust. Almost gimmicky to be honest. But that’s just an optional feature. The drill works just as fine without it.
Our verdict: The WEN4210T is a ‘lot of power’ for the price. It’s fairly accurate, drills through most types of materials with ease and comes at a very attractive price tag. Perfect for the hobbyist or home user.

#4 – Skil 3320 – Best Bench Top Drill Press

At first glance, the Skil 3320 looks like a mirror replica of the Wen4210T.
There’s very little difference in the design apart from the different color schemes on the casing.
But, when you actually start to work on it, you’ll notice that there are tiny variations in the way the Skil 3320 works with different materials.
2-Stroke Tabletop drill press
The Skil 3320 is a 2-stroke tabletop machine that’s ideal for DIY woodworkers or hobbyists alike.
As we mentioned, it is very similar to the WEN4210RT in terms of specifications.
It comes with a 1/2” keyed chuck that works with a wide range of bits that are up to ½ inches.
It is a five-speed press. You can go from 570 to 3050 RPM by adjusting the belt and pulley system.
The worksurface tilts or bevels by up to 45 degrees to the left or right. And it comes with the X2 laser beam.
Hmm…wondering aren’t you?
Compact and higher drilling capacity.

Skil has also stood behind this product with a 3 year limited warranty.

The 3320 weighs a pleasant 52.2 pounds and stands just 21 inches tall. That’s smaller and lighter than the WEN.
Also, it has a 2 1/8” drilling capacity which is slightly more than the WEN.
It almost makes you feel that this might be the better choice. But when it comes to power, the WEN4210T is the better option.
Now, this does not mean that the Skil 3320 is under-powered. The difference is only minute and for all you know, you might not even notice it.   Our verdict: To be fair, there’s very little to choose between the two. You can pick either one of the two and you won’t be disappointed one bit. For users seeking more portability, the Skil 3320 might be a better choice.

#5 – Delta 18-900l – Commercial Drill Press

The Delta 18-900L is the first industrial-grade drill press on this list. And it is a monster. This Can be considered a commercial drill press.

It features a beefy cast iron body with a capacious work table and a laundry list of best-in-class features, that make it one of the top contenders for the best drill press.

Designed for the serious woodworker.
The Delta 18-900L features a rugged design that screams ‘industrial’. There are very few shiny parts.
Instead, you are greeted by the matte finish of heavy-duty cast iron and steel.
The table is 20” x 14” inches and you can adjust it in various angles depending on the job.
This is a 16-speed drill press that uses two belts and three pulleys to adjust the speeds. It has a low speed of 170 RPM which is ideal for metals and a top speed of 3000 RPM.
There’s a speed adjustment chart on the underside of the cover that shows you the right speed for the right material. All that you need to do is flip open the top, move the lever to release the tensioning, adjust the speed and press the lever again. The tension adjusts automatically.
6-Inch Quill Feed Travel
The Delta 18-900L features a 6-inch quill feed travel system with large, powerful handles that give you great control over the quill feed.
One complete turn of the handles feeds the entire 6-inch distance.

One thing that is truly impressive is the warranty Delta gives with there power tools… 5 years warranty which is a sign of the confidence they have in the quality of their tools construction.

Micro depth adjustments are made easy, courtesy the large, responsive, adjustable scale on the feed.
Just set zero to the exact depth to where you wish to drill and reset it after you are done.
It also features a split-nut, quill stop system that lets you stop the quill feed easily by pressing and engaging two split nuts.
Other than this, the 18-900L also features a large, adjustable LED work light and a twin X cross-hair laser that’s incredibly accurate.
Our verdict: The Delta 18-900L is hands down, one of the best drill presses that we’ve ever seen and used so far. It’s a tad pricey. But the serious woodworker or professional won’t mind the extra cost because a commercial drill press is always going to cost more due to the precision that it brings to the table and its ability to deal with a heavy workload.

#6 – WEN 4214 – Best Mid Priced Drill Press

The 4214 is the mid-range offering from Wen’s impressive bench-top drill press lineup.

It is a 12-inch, variable speed drill press that’s perfect for both hobbyists as well as professional machinists and metal workers.
Belt-Adjustments be gone

The WEN 4214 towers over the other budget-priced bench-top models in this list with its beefy cast iron construction.
As you assemble the parts, you will notice that the build quality is top-notch.

One of the standout features is the large 9½” by 9½” work table with a roller extension for larger workpieces.

Further, it bevels 45-degrees to the left and right when needed.
Speed adjustment is as easy as turning a lever and a bright LED screen displays the current speed setting.

You can choose from a low of 580 RPM to a high of 3200 RPM which makes this well suited for a variety of materials.
Work with a variety of drills and materials
The 4214 features a 5/8-inch chuck with the MT2 spindle taper, that allows you to work with a wider range of drill bits.
The spindle travels a whopping 3-1/8-inches and you can make accurate depth adjustments without breaking a sweat.

2 years manufacturers warranty as standard with all WEN power tolls.

The 5-amp induction motor delivers about 2/3 HP and more than suffices for household as well as professional tasks.
Last but not least, the WEN 4214 also features an on-board work light and an X-cross-hair laser system that eliminates any room for error.
Our verdict: Despite being professional-grade, the WEN4214 is priced just a tad above the budget-priced models in this list. If you are in woodworking for the long run, we recommend that you up your budget and little and get your hands on this beauty. It should last for years without the slightest of problems.

#7 – Gino Development True power – Good Low Budget Drill Press

This one stands out in the lower price bracket although it can’t match the WEN4208 it is still a capable little machine.
The Gino Development, also called the ‘TruePower Mini’ is a precision drill, commonly used for drilling precise, tiny holes in a variety of metals.
It is occasionally used with wooden & plastic stock too.
This is a very good drill for the price. It is well made, remains wobble-free and comes with a range of speed settings that make it well suited for a wide range of applications.
Portable, pocket-sized unit
This is a compact, lightweight unit that you can easily move around in your workshop or even carry with you. It weighs just 11.8 pounds and stands 13.5” tall. Tucks away into any storage cabinet after use.
It is made mostly of lightweight aluminum but comes with a stable cast iron base that prevents wobble.
The work area is a very useful 6.750″ x 6.750″ and the 1” quill stroke is just about perfect for the applications that it’s primarily used for.
It features a maximum chuck capacity of 6mm and can accommodate bits that are 0.79mm to 6mm in diameter.
Variable speed adjustments
You can choose from three-speed settings on the TruePower Mini.
There’s 0-5000 RPM, 0-6500 RPM, and 0-8500 RPM, as well as the option to select any speed within that range. So, you can select the first setting and set your speed to 4000 RPM for instance.

The TruePower comes with only 1 years warranty.

While the machine works flawlessly on the upper-speed settings, it does tend to lose some torque at the lower end.
That’s but a small niggle for us.
Our verdict: The TruePower Mini is a wonderful little machine at a throwaway price. If your workshop tasks involve precision drilling work, then there’s no better choice than this. P.S. Throw the manual away and check YouTube to save yourself a lot of frustration.

#8 – Ainfox 10-Inch Bench Top Drill Press

The Ainfox 10-Inch Pillar Drill is sort of like the middle ground between a professional-grade press and a home use one.
The 10-inch capacity is more than what you’d normally expect at this price point. To top it off, it comes with 12-speed settings for working with different materials.
This, at just a wee bit more than what you’d normally pay for an entry-level machine.
Truly Heavy duty
Most manufacturers loosely throw around the term ‘heavy-duty’ while describing any machine or appliance made of metal.
But the Ainfox 10-inch drill press is truly heavy-duty. It is made of tough cast iron and weighs a whopping 66 lbs. when fully assembled.
The extra weight translates into added stability. This one doesn’t even move a whisker when operational.
The cast iron table is a reasonable 7 7/8” x 7 7/8” and you should have ample room to work with your stock. It bevels from 0-45 degrees making it easier to make angular cuts.
It features a 1/8 -1/2″ keyed chuck and has a quill feed distance of 5” with a maximum cutting depth of 2 3/8”.
Adjustable depth stops.

The 3.5 AMP motor brings in some serious power to the press. Wood, metal, this cuts through the toughest of materials without getting overheated.
Repetitive, precision-demanding tasks are simplified with the depth stop setting that allows you to preset the cutting depth.
Having said that, it’s not the best of choices for cutting tasks that demand engineering-level precision.
Our Verdict: The Ainstop 10-inch pillar drill is a fine machine for the price. It is reliable, stable and has lots of power under the hood. At this price point, the only better pick that we can recommend is the WEN 4210T.

#9 – ShopSeries RK7033 – Great Hobby Drill Press

A lot of the beginner tabletop drill presses lack the power needed to drill through denser materials.
Like thick oak for example. Or carbon steel.
The ShopSeries RK7033 is powered by a 6.2-amp engine and it has a lot of juice for a machine this size.
In fact, it is closer to a professional-grade unit than some of the other models in this list of the best table drill press. It stands 28” tall and is built like a tank.
Stable and powerful
The RK7033 weighs around 48 lbs. and stays as steady as a rock during operation.
The 2/3 HP induction motor provides 200 in-lbs. of consistent torque to power the drill bit through the workpieces.

Works with 2” thick stock
The ShopSeries RK7033 features a ½ “keyed chuck that allows you to work with bits that are up to ½” shank.
The cutting depth is 2” and you can further adjust the table height if you wish to cut deeper.
There are five preset spindle speeds and the best part is that you just need to raise the top and adjust the pulley to set the speed. No need to move the belt and readjust the tension.

ShopSeries is made by Rockwell and you can read about the warranty here.

One thing that must be mentioned is that the ShopSeries range of products is manufactured by Rockwell. However, this lineup of products seems to be discontinued and you cannot find any information about it on their official website.
Thankfully, most of the replacement parts are easily available online.
Our verdict: Need the best drill press with more power than an entry-level tabletop model? Here you go. There are a few trade-offs for sure. But none of them would make us reconsider our decision to include the ShopSeries RK7033 in this list.

#10 – Genesis GDP805P – Another Good Budget Drill Press

Last but not least, we have the Genesis GDP805P.
Like most of the drills in this list, this one too is a budget-priced model with specs that rival much higher priced brands.
We believe that while industrial-grade drills have their place in the market, their usage is limited to the professionals.
Instead, it is the DIYer and the hobbyist who are exploring these machines more passionately. Home workshops buzzing with activity on weekends.
And the lower and mid-range of the price bracket appeals more to them than the higher end.
So here goes.
Top-heavy model
The Genesis GDP805P is a tabletop unit with a very small footprint.
It’s perfect for small workshops and garages where work-space is a premium.
It features a cast iron base that can be bolted to the surface. In fact, we highly recommend that you bolt this down. It is a little top-heavy and does tend to move if it’s unsecured.
It is powered by a 2.6amp motor which is powerful enough to cut through metal and thick wood. Also, it doesn’t create a din even at top speed.

Genesis gives a 2 years manufacturers warranty on this machine.

The GDP805P has 5-speed settings to choose from. You just need to lift the cover on the top of the unit to access the pulley housing and adjust the belt to change the speed.
Like most budget-priced units, the lower speed performance isn’t stellar. But it works phenomenally well at higher speeds.
It features a 1/2″chuck, which is pretty standard at this price point and has a 2” cutting depth.
A beveling base allows you to make angular cuts as well.
Our verdict: The Genesis GDP805P is one of the best drill presses at this price point. It has all the features that one expects from a medium-range drill press. And the performance is on par with units that cost 2x as much. A well-deserved place in the Best drill press for Genesis!

The Best Drill Press Features to Consider

Drill press also known as pillar drills are a highly accurate way of drilling various materials.
Normally constructed of cast iron they come in a range of shapes and sizes some are workbench based and some are floor-standing models.
The floor-standing models come with a higher price tag but are fitted with higher-powered motors. It’s not out of the normal for these models to priced in-between $500 – $1500 and is normally purchased by semi-professional to professional users. This is not to say that the lower-priced workbench models are not capable of producing high-quality results and reliability because there are many drill presses under $100 that will produce impressive results.
They all have one thing in common though and that’s power and stability that handheld power tools can’t compete with.
Another big plus is the number of speed settings that are offered with drill presses as this really helps achieve the best quality results especially when you work with a large selection of materials.
The basic design of a pillar drill is a simple concept and very similar to any drill, it comprises of an electric motor connected to the gearbox via pulleys and the number of step-downs is the number of speeds available.
This is connected to the quill via the winding wheel giving the capability to move the drill up and down.
They are a very solid and durable unit and in most cases are built to stand up to a professional environment of heavy and constant use. You will find the drill press in every engineering workshop and in 90% of joiners workshops too.
With many different sizes of these units comes different chuck sizes with the majority coming with chuck maximums of 1/2″ or 5/8″.
The RPM of these pillar drills is normally between 500rpm and 3000rpm many come with the ability to select both of these speeds and anything in-between through the variable speed settings.
The electric motors are very capable to the point many manufacturers don’t even consider it worth detailing the horsepower of the drill because it goes without saying that the motor is highly capable and there is no advantage to advertising it when they are all far more than capable. It goes without saying though that a $50 drill press will not have the power of a $500 drill press but for around $75 – $100 you can get a very capable one that will work hard for years.
An important consideration is the available movement that the drill offers through the spindle handle because this controls the depth of the material you will be capable of drilling through so look out for that especially if you plan on working with thick materials.
You can find these machines for under $50 but don’t in our experience it’s best not to be tempted by those as they are inferior in the quality of the construction and castings and often offer poor design for mounting of the unit. These often end up as a false economy purchase because they don’t last very long before it breaks down leaving you in the lurch and needing to purchase another one.
Safety
Always wear safety goggles when using a drill press because it only takes a millisecond for a metal or wood particle to shoot into your eye and cause permanent damage.
Always keep the safety guard in place whenever it’s available.
Never touch the drill whilst in motion as these are very powerful and it can cause serious damage in the blink of an eye.
Always unplug or switch it off at the plug whilst changing the drill bit otherwise one mistake can result in mucho pain.

Best Electric Chainsaw Reviews 2021 Cut Down To The Best 10

Best Electric Chainsaw Reviews 2021

If you asked some veteran woodcutters about their thoughts on the best electric chainsaw 5 years ago they would have chopped you down with terms like underpowered and short battery life.

That’s because, for a lot of professionals and hobbyists, the term ‘best’ and ‘electric’ didn’t use to go hand in hand, when discussing the best electric chainsaw power tools.

They still preferred the smoke, the soot and the smell of gasoline as that petrol chainsaw engine roars to life.

A decade ago, we’d have meekly thrown in the towel in such an argument.

There was no comparison to be drawn between a petrol-powered brute of a machine and an electric one which was marred by poor battery life, weak kinetic energy output, and poor build quality.

It was almost a no-brainer choice.

But technology has improved by leaps and bounds in the past few years.

So much so, that some of the best electric chainsaws now rival gas-powered chainsaws in performance.

They are cleaner, quieter, portable and more affordable.

Oh yes, almost forgot to mention that they start in the blink of an eye even after hibernating all winter.

No yanking on those jammed cords until you are tired and sweaty before you have even started your cutting work.

There are now many reasons that justify why an electric chainsaw can be an equally good proposition today.

And we created the pick of the top 10 best electric chainsaws in the market in 2021.

1- DEWALT 20V DCCS620P1 12 Inch – Best Small Electric Chainsaw

(5AH)If you were wondering whether a best electric chainsaw would be worth its salt, then here’s our review of the top 10, followed by a brief primer for first-timers looking to venture beyond gas-powered chainsaws.

The Dewalt DCCS620P1 is a gold standard electric chainsaw and a shoo-in for the #1 position in this list of best electric chainsaws.

It’s a battery-powered, cordless unit that makes short work of small and medium-sized trees, (including ones that are 10-12-inches in diameter) speaks volumes about its efficiency and its potential

application in a home, or small commercial setup.

More power than you’d expect

The brushless motor under the hood of the Dewalt DCCS620P1 electric chainsaw delivers consistent power output during run time.

In fact, most first-time users are surprised at how powerful this unit is.

Also, it weighs a pleasant 9 lbs. only.

Overhead cutting tasks? Check!

Pruning, remodeling, demolishing, even when you are placed precariously on a rickety ladder or on a lift, this little boy can do it all.

Moreover, the intuitive user-design makes it a breeze to handle.

It has rubberized handles that give you a solid grip. Chain tension adjustment is as easy as twisting a knob.

Some people find the 12-inch bar a little limiting. But unless you are a professional tree surgeon, a bigger (and pricier) bar is usually overkill.

This will suffice for almost 90% of the tasks around the home.

Long-lasting, quick charging battery

The DCCS620P1 is a part of the 20-Volt MAX range of power tools from Dewalt.

If you have any one of the tools in your garage, you can buy this electric chainsaw without the battery and swap it when needed.

The 20V Lithium-Ion battery easily lasts all day without affecting the power output. And if it does start to sputter, it can be recharged quickly.

Overall, the Dewalt DCCS620P1 is a very useful chainsaw that is available for one-third of the cost of gas-powered units with similar specs.

Verdict: Looking for a portable, handy chainsaw for medium cutting jobs

around the home? Look no further! The Dewalt DCCS620P1 is a great buy.

2 – BLACK+DECKER 12-Inch LCS1240 40-volt – Inexpensive Electric Chainsaw

The Black & Decker LCS1240 is a nearly identical unit to the Dewalt in the specifications and it’s well worthy of it’s best electric chainsaw entry.

It has a 12-inch Oregon bar, a lightweight body and is powered by a 40V Li-IO battery.

This little unit is more than capable of handling medium-sized logs no problem.

It does have a few niggles though which we will mention in a bit.

Ergonomic, Lightweight design

The Black & Decker LCS1240 has a very user-friendly design.

It weighs around 9 lbs. and the top-wrap handle allows a firm grip while the saw is functional. The vibration and the strain on your hands are negligible.

There are plastic bucking spikes that help to keep the saw stable during use.

But the blade brake, which is a standard safety feature in chainsaws at this price point is missing.

Perfect for pruning and sectioning

The LCS1240 is a compact, cordless electric chainsaw with a brushed motor at its heart which provides excellent power output, provided that you don’t expect to bring down 15-inchers with it.

It will deal with 8-10-inch-thick logs easily and it works like a charm. It might even power on while sectioning a 12-incher.

But it’d probably be a bit of a stretch.

You’d have to use those plastic bucking spikes to good effect without applying too much pressure.

Coming to the handling, it features automatic chain & bar lubrication. But you still must add chain oil manually with the oil button.

Now, depending on the task that you are at, it can mean a lot of oil.

Sadly, this one guzzles oil. But that’s just a minor inconvenience and certainly not a deal-breaker.

Also, that brushed motor can heat up a bit when it’s being worked hard for long periods.

If the motor stalls during a task, just switch off the unit and restart after a few minutes. It will fire back up in no time.

Verdict: If you are looking for a pocket-friendly chainsaw that can assist you in

trimming up posts or dealing with logs that are 8-inches or less in diameter, then the Black & Decker LCS1240 is one of your best bets.

3 – Greenworks 16-Inch 40V – Powerful Cordless Chainsaw

The 16-inch 40V Cordless Electric Chainsaw is one of Greenworks’s flagships in the overcrowded, battery-powered Outdoor Power Equipment (OPE) market.

This is a very versatile unit that can be used for both, casual home use as well as professional cutting tasks.

It is powered by a 40V Lithium-Ion battery and has a brushless motor under the hood that is capable of doing some serious, heavy cutting.

Well-rounded feature list

At this price point, the Greenworks 16-inch chainsaw offers more features than any of its competitors.

For starters, it has a 16-inch long Oregon Steel bar. Even the most expensive cordless models usually have a 14-inch bar.

It features automatic oiling, while you can adjust the tension of the chain with two easily-accessible dials

To top it off, it comes with an impressive safety-feature list.

There is a hand-guard, a chain brake and a quick-release trigger that instantly brings the unit to a stand-still.

If you are perched on the limb of a tree or on a ladder, the quick-stop function can be invaluable.

Brute cutting force

The Greenworks 16-Inch cordless chainsaw is going to surprise you with its power. It can easily cut through logs that are 12-inches thick.

And we aren’t talking about dried, softwood either.

Palm, freshly-cut oak, soaking wet wood, this bad boy can run through it like a knife through butter.

The battery life is phenomenal too. We know that runtime is largely dependent on the load that you exert on the motor.

But the Greenworks 16-inch cordless will last through heavy cutting tasks without the power getting bogged down or the battery dying on you.

Verdict: This is undoubtedly the best electric chainsaw in 2020 if you are looking at a cordless model. Features, price, efficiency, you absolutely cannot go wrong this one.

4 – BLACK+DECKER LCS1020 – Mini Electric Chainsaw

The LCS1020 with a 10-inch steel Oregon bar is the smallest electric chainsaw in this list.

But it’s not weak by a long shot.

In fact, its compact size and lightweight design make it one of the best chainsaws for in-the-air use around the home.

Be it in-tree jobs like pruning, trimming dead or diseased branches, cutting firewood or thick shrubs, this one fits the bill perfectly.

Firm grip, safety-lock activation

Given the small footprint, the Black & Decker LCS1020 is perfect even for a senior homemaker looking to do their tasks in the yard.

It weighs just 7 lbs. and you can easily maneuver it to make a variety of cuts.

It comes with a safety-lock which must be pushed right through the wrap-around handle.

This ensures that the saw doesn’t go haywire when you are making a precise cut. Secondly, it gives you a firm grip on the handle.

It comes with a manual chain lubrication system and tool-less tension adjustment.

This means that if you find the chain losing tension, you can adjust it on-the-go without interrupting your work.

Decent Power for a small chainsaw

For handling smaller tasks, like cutting wood that is 4-8 inches in diameter, or pruning thick shrubs around the yard, the Black & Decker LCS1020 is second to none.

The battery life is excellent and you should be able to get about 45 minutes of runtime from a single charge in normal circumstances which might not sound like a long time but you can get through a lot of wood in 45 minutes.

It takes about 4-5 hours for a full recharge though. So having a spare/backup battery might prove handy if you intend to work all day long with this.

Verdict: The LCS1020 has its place in a home setting. It is extremely light, has a 10-inch cutting reach which lets you put it to good use in those awkward angles.

5 – Greenworks  12 Inch 40V – Best for light Cutting

The 12-inch 40V chainsaw from Greenworks might be a size down from the 16-inch model.

But it boasts a wide array of useful features that make it ideal for home use.

It offers 30% more torque as compared to its predecessors. At the same time, vibration on the handle is reduced by up to 70% which will be noticeable especially for long-duration users.

It is reasonably light and has a 12-inch cutting reach which makes it easy to control and maneuver.

Ergonomics at its best

Everything about the Greenworks 12-inch cordless chainsaw is aimed towards comfortable home use.

It weighs barely 6 lbs., has a sturdy plastic body with a wide, rubberized wrap-around handle and comes with a 12-inch steel chain and bar.

This makes it possible to make easy cuts at a variety of angles.

If you prefer handling a chainsaw with one hand, then this is a really good choice.

The 2.0 Ah battery offers almost 75 cuts on a single charge for normal-sized logs. This means that you should be able to get almost two hours of run time before the battery gets drained.

Automatic Oiling

The saw features an automatic bar and chain lubrication system that keeps the chain lubed without the need for manual oil-changes.

The oil reservoir is translucent, so you’ll know when it’s time for a refill. No guesswork.

It doesn’t come with a chain brake, which is a little bit disappointing but it has an impressive feature list otherwise.

Coming to the most important part, the power.

The Greenworks 40V chainsaw is best suited for light to medium-duty cutting tasks. Like clearing a medium-sized (6-8 inches) tree that’s downed or for cutting logs for firewood.

It can cut through thicker and denser wood also up to around 10 inches.

Verdict: Lightweight, portable saw for light-duty work around the home!

Best Budget Electric Chainsaws

We don’t usually consider the price as a deciding factor while shopping for outdoor power equipment.

That’s because tools that are advertised as cheap usually come with tradeoffs that one can do without.

But a lot of homeowners won’t be keen on spending large amounts on a chainsaw, which they will only use once in a while.

That’s why we decided to create a budget-friendly list of reliable electric chainsaws.

Here’s our pick of the best budget electric chainsaws.

1 – Worx 16-Inch 14.5 Amp – Best Corded Electric Chainsaw

A chainsaw with a 16-inch bar in this price bracket.

We aren’t joking folks.

This is the Worx 14.5 Amp Corded Electric Chainsaw that boasts of a very respectable list of features like a 16-inch cutting reach, a patented automatic tension adjustment system and automatic chain lubrication.

If you are willing to overlook the ‘cord’ then this one might be a better pick than some of the cordless chainsaws that we mentioned.

Powerful 14.5 Amp Motor

Powering the Worx 16-inch Chainsaw is a 14.5 Amp motor that gives it as much power as a similar-sized gas-powered unit.

You can cut trees that are 14-inches in diameter without breaking a sweat. This translates into fast and efficient performance for light to medium-duty tasks.

It weighs 11 lbs. which is a tad more than the cordless ones. But not nearly as heavy as a gas-powered model.

The No Kick Tip

The Worx 14.5 Chainsaw features a no-tip kick.

Well, that’s a standard safety feature in most chainsaws these days. But one that we haven’t touched upon in this review yet. So we figured that it needed a mention.

This feature automatically stops the chainsaw if it detects any improper contact. This prevents a kickback and saves you from potential injury.

The only possible quibble that we have with this is that it consumes quite a lot of oil. You’d have to keep an eye on that reservoir.

Some users say that a possible workaround is to use thicker, viscosity oil.

The automatic chain tension adjustment system is a really good feature to have.

You no longer have to keep an eye on the chain tension while you work. And if it does go slack after working for a few hours, a twist of a knob tightens it in no time.

We love the ergonomic design. There’s a full-wrap handle on the front and a rubberized rear handle which give excellent control while you maneuver the saw.

Verdict: Very powerful chainsaw at a very competitive price. If cords and extensions don’t annoy you, then go for it by all means. It’s perfect for both home and professional use.

2 – Ivation Electric Chainsaw 16-Inch 15A – Powerful Corded Chainsaw

Ivation might not be as popular as some of the other big brands in this list of best electric chainsaw are.

But this 16-inch electric chainsaw stands its ground against much higher priced units in terms of specifications and performance.

It provides a very powerful cutting performance and it has a bevy of useful features to boot which makes it easy to set up and handle.

Sleek Profile with a half-wraparound handle

The first thing that you’d notice is how sleek the saw looks despite featuring a 16-inch bar.

The white design is a refreshing change from the norm and there’s a half-wrap front handle along with a rubberized rear handle that gives you a firm grip.

It weighs around 11 lbs. And can easily be used for in-the-air cutting tasks as well as for extended durations of time.

The reduced kickback Double Guard 91 bar from Oregon ensures smooth and vibration-free operation most of the time. And it features an S56 low kickback Oregon chain (In case you need a replacement).

Managing chain tension is a breeze. There’s a large and prominent knob for easy adjustments.

To add to it, there is a bevy of safety features integrated into it for safe operation. There’s a safety lock which must be activated before you engage the throttle, there are metal spikes that stabilize the saw during use & there’s an emergency chain brake.

Almost 2.4HP power

In theory, the 15amp motor in the Ivation Chainsaw should be able to deliver almost 2.4HP.

That’s equivalent to what a lot of higher-priced gas-powered saws offer.

While it does not achieve that power consistently due to motors being less than 100% efficient, it does come pretty close.

To give you some perspective, there are users who have cut through trees that were 16-inches in diameter in one single pass.

That’s a lot of power for the price.

Verdict: Might not be as well known as some of the big brands. But this is a very powerful chainsaw that offers complete value for your money.

The best low budget electric chainsaws

To be honest, there are a lot of fancy-looking gimmicks being peddled as good quality saws, in this price bracket.

But most of them overheat or start to sputter after just minutes of use.

We really had our tasks cut out finding quality chainsaws in this price bracket but after some research, we found a couple of gems.

These are the two that stood out in terms of price and performance.

1 – Worx WG305.1 Electric Chainsaw – Best Low priced

The WG305.1 which Worx calls a ‘pocket-sized powerhouse’ is quite popular with homeowners looking for a lightweight chainsaw for medium cutting tasks around the home.

A 14-inch guide bar, tool-less tension adjustment & powered by an 8 Amp. Motor.

What more can one ask for at this price point?

Weighs just 7 lbs.

At 7 lbs., the WG305.1 is among the lightest chainsaws in this best electric chainsaw list. Only the Greenworks 20262 & the Remington RM1425 (coming up next) weighs less.

To add to it, it has a really compact design which makes it extremely easy to maneuver even for people with physical limitations. (Injury, disability)

Reasonably powerful saw

When you read the specifications, the 8 AMP motor might seem less than adequate. But you’d be surprised at the efficiency that this saw has.

It can cut through stock that is 8-inch thick in a single pass. And it can cut through 14-inch thick stock as well. But that will take multiple passes.

The chain speed is 8.5 meters per second. By far, not the fastest that we’ve seen. But with patience, you can work through thick, wet wood without being bogged down.

Many users have reported that the chain slips now and then, but upon further research, it turned out it was just until it gets worn in. So, you will want to keep an eye on the tension while you work, particularly with heavy, thick wood.

The rubberized over-grip handle might not be as comfortable as a full wrap-around one. But the chainsaw is pretty stable during use. And you can make a variety of cuts, even at difficult angles without breaking a sweat.

The WG305.1 features a 14-inch low kickback sprocket nose bar and a chain with 52 links. Both are easily available should you need a replacement.

Verdict: The WG305.1 is a very useful tool for light and medium cutting work. It’s not a heavy-duty gas powered brute. But at this price point, it offers exceptional value. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better deal.

2 – Remington RM1425 8A 14-Inch – Best For Trimming Branches

The Remington RM1425 electric chainsaw is a small C2 saw (classified for lightweight, occasional home use) that can be an ideal replacement for expensive tree-trimming estimates from professional contractors.

Have shrubs that need to be removed? Need firewood for the winter? This would be your go-to chainsaw for minor but labor-intensive cutting tasks.

It comes with a 14-inch bar, a one-touch lubrication system and a very lightweight design that can be managed by people of all ages.

More powerful than it appears to be

The RM1425 can easily tackle most types of wood that are about 8-inches in diameter.

That’s a single pass cut by the way. But many users have tested it with much thicker stock.

It is powered by an 8 Amp motor. While we wouldn’t recommend straining it too much, the chainsaw has even been put to use with wood that was 14-inches in diameter. It took a lot more time and even got a bit overheated. But it did the job.

Coming to the handling part, it is pretty easy to use the RM1425. It comes fully assembled and has front and rear handles with hand guards to protect the user from a broken chain or an accidental slip.

Manual One-touch oiling system

The RM1425 features a 14-inch, low kickback MTD bar. However, it is a non-nose sprocket styled one.

That shouldn’t be a concern though unless you intend to use this for heavy-duty work.

Chain tension adjustment is manual and you will need a flathead screwdriver to adjust it. Keep an eye on the chain tension especially in the first few runs.

The Remington RM1425 features a one-touch oil dispensing system which makes it easy to lubricate the bar and chain.

Just keep an eye on the chain oil reservoir which is positioned right in between the handguard and the handle on the front.

Press this bulb a few times and oil is released.

Now for a couple of minor flaws that we found.

The debris is expelled from the top of the bar as opposed to the bottom. This will mean you will want safety glasses on whilst operating it but you should always be wearing them with any chainsaw anyway. You will also need to clean the saw periodically to prevent damage.

It weighs just above 6 lbs. and you should have no problems whatsoever hauling it across the yard or carrying it for impromptu camping trips.

It has a throttle-lockout (safety lock) switch which needs to be activated before you engage the throttle. Disengage it and the saw slowly comes to a halt.

Verdict: Despite a few minor niggles, we are very impressed by the Remington RM1425. It is extremely lightweight, reasonably powerful and very, very affordable. Hard to beat at this price.

Makita XCUO3PT 18V – Best Professional Battery Powered Chainsaw

Makita XCUO3PT 18V Cordless Electric Chainsaw
Before we start this, we have to mention that we are huge fans of Makita’s products.

They are hands down one of the best manufacturers of power tools with perfectly engineered products that leave little room for complaints.

This 14 inch cordless chainsaw is almost there. Why the ‘almost’, you might ask. We’ll get to that in a bit.

The XCUO3PT is a cordless chainsaw that is part of Makita’s 18V range of tools, which means that you can swap the batteries if you own one of the other tools.

It comes with a 12-inch guide bar, 2 x 18V batteries and a bunch of safety features to prevent mishandling.

Brute force in a compact body

Let’s start with the most important aspect, the power.

The Makita XCUO2PT cordless electric chainsaw is extremely powerful thanks to the brushless motor direct-drive system. In fact, it’s the closest that you can get to a 32cc Gas powered chainsaw in terms of power output.

It will just slice through wet, thick, heavy wood that is 12-inches in diameter with no signs of strain on the motor.

Having said that, the manufacturer recommends this only for light and medium cutting tasks such as limbing, pruning and cutting firewood.

It weighs around 10 lbs and is reasonably easy to set up and use.

Battery life is top-notch and you should be able to get hours of runtime with a single charge.

Extreme Protection Technology

Now for the safety features which cause a hindrance in the operation. It can be a minor hindrance for occasional users. But a major annoyance for someone who intends to use this saw every day for heavy-duty tasks.

The Makita XCUO3PT features a power button that must be pressed, followed by a safety lock lever and lastly the throttle. The three must be activated in the above-mentioned sequence to start the saw.

One of the best features of this chainsaw is the extreme protection technology seal that prevents the machinery from getting clogged or damaged due to debris.

Also, it does not leak oil no matter what position you store it in (horizontal or vertical).

Verdict: A phenomenal, professional-grade power tool from Makita that’s let down by one safety feature too many. If you are willing to overlook this tiny niggle, then this is hands down one of the best electric chainsaws that money can buy.

Things to consider before you buy an electric chainsaw

Electric chainsaws are still considered to be fairly new to the market.

To add to it, there’s a lot of misinformation being floated around by manufacturers, who interchangeably use the terms Volts (V), Amps (A) & Wattage (W) to describe power output.

This is enough to confuse a new buyer who’s never owned a chainsaw before. Or to sway them into buying a higher-priced unit than what might be required.

If you are feeling lost while shopping for the best electric chainsaw, then here are a few key variables to consider before you make the decision.

What chainsaw Do I need?

What type of wood will you be tackling? Will it be dried, diseased branches? Will it be softwood or will it be a hardwood like Maple or Oak?

What is the amount of wood you will cut in a week?

Typically, there are two factors that determine how powerful the electric chainsaw will be and whether it matches up to the tasks that you require it for.

In a cordless model, the Voltage and the horsepower (if the manufacturer mentions it) are the most critical factors that determine power.

In a corded model, it’s the Amperage and Horsepower.

Also, the longer the guide bar, the easier it becomes to cut large-diameter wood.

The caveat is that a longer bar is heavier and more difficult to handle for tasks that require precision.

A saw with a smaller bar (10-14 inches) will be easier to manage for smaller, routine cutting tasks around the garden.

Corded vs. Cordless Chainsaws

How far in the yard do you intend to venture with the chainsaw in tow?

If you opt for a corded model, you’d have to be pretty close to a power socket or rig it up with an extension lead.

A cordless model offers better mobility. But you will require an additional/backup battery to extend its runtime beyond a few hours.

Desirable features

Once you figure out what chainsaw size and type work best for you, here are a few features to lookout for.

Ease of use: The electric chainsaw should be easy to set up (minimal assembly) and use. Look for ergonomic design, rubberized handles, and the overall footprint.

Can you handle it with one hand? How heavy is the unit? Typically, the best electric chainsaws weigh anywhere from 6 lbs. to 12 lbs. Anything more and it will put a strain on your hands, arms, and shoulders.

Automatic oiler: An integrated, automatic oiling system will keep the chain lubricated without having to manually add oil every time you use it.

Safety features: The chainsaw must have a safety lockout switch and ideally, a chain brake to manually stop the chain in case of an emergency.

Some chainsaws automatically detect improper contact and stop the chain. Low kickback bars and chains will further reduce the risk of injury.

Always wear safety goggles and a good pair of gloves when operating an electric chainsaw.

Dewalt DCS331B Best Cordless Jigsaw

Dewalt is an American company that is well renowned for designing and building top-quality power tools, they are a very popular choice for
contractors because of the reliability and performance of their power tools.

This model is for the body only and doesn’t come with a battery or charger included which is a bit disappointing but they are available to
purchase from most power tool outlets including Amazon.

We really like this model because it is a very strong jigsaw constructed mainly of metal and it comes with adjustable speed settings which
really help it cut through a range of different materials with ease.

It has the 4 position orbital cutting action and the fast blade changing quick blade ejection system which makes switching blades really fast.

bOne of the big advantages of this Dewalt DCS331b jigsaw is it has really been built to last with the levers and a large part of the body made from steel makes it a really solid.

Dewalt has really stood behind by giving a manufacturer’s guarantee of 3 years on faults or defects which is much longer than the usual 1 year that most jigsaws are normally covered for.

It has a keyless shoe bevel giving it the ability to cut materials at an angle of 0, 15, 30 and 45 degrees.

It uses T shank blades and these are the only cutting blades it is compatible with.

It weighs around 11 pounds once you have the battery attached with the weight mostly owing to its mostly metal construction but it is well balanced and provides a really nice cut across all materials, it measures in at 11 x 4 x 11 inches.

It has an anti-slip grip handle for improved grip and control.

This Dewalt Jigsaw comes with the dust or shavings blower which makes staying on the line much simpler than the old blow it off yourself technique.

The Bosch has more features but makes no mistake this is a professional jigsaw that will stand up to constant heavy use and it scores highly among customers many of whom are professional contractors who need reliable power tools for their work so that confirms it’s placed as a really good choice.

Makita 4350FCT Top Handle Jig Saw with L.E.D.Light

Suitable for cutting wood, metal, and plastic and has an adjustable shoe that enables you to cut from 0-45 degree angles.

It has built-in dust and sawdust blower which also makes it easy to stay on the cutting line and the LED light is also really helpful for poorly lit areas of the materials your working with.

It is really light at 6 pounds in weight and comes with an 8ft power cord which is a decent length for getting around your work without no snagging.

bThis jigsaw gives a really nice clean cut and with the electronic speed control system it is good at both slow speed cutting and high-speed cutting plus the anti-splinter feature gives you an excellent finish.

The soft-start feature also helps with maintaining a good quality cut and this jigsaw is really easy to control with very little vibration or bounce from suddenly snagging on the wood.

Bosch Professional Cordless Jigsaw Model number GST 12V-70

Another entry from Bosch which is well worthy of the top 10 best jigsaw performers, it’s compact and lightweight and excellent for curved and fine detailed cutting tasks.

This is a cordless jigsaw that has long-life batteries included in the package with 2 x 2.0ah batteries with a quick-charge battery charger with overcharge protection and the jigsaw has a battery indicator on it.

With its speed pre-selection settings for different materials, it is a very capable and compact jigsaw.

It has a dust extraction kit and LED light so it’s easy to keep to the cutting line and is also really useful for cutting from underneath the workpiece. The LED can be switched on or off.

This Bosch jigsaw also has the tool-less quick blade change that is so popular now and the footplate is adjustable up to 45 degrees.

It has an auto-brake design so it stops as soon as it is switched off.

The weight of the jigsaw with the battery included is 1.5kg and it has a very ergonomic feel to it with a soft anti-slip handle that makes it really nice to operate.

The 3 stage cutting action provides tear-free cuts so it gives a good clean finish and the aluminum base is nice and sturdy with a plastic sole that helps glide across the materials and combined with the anti-splinter guard it gives an excellently clean cut.

It comes with a standard 1-year warranty but if you register it online it is extended to 3 years warranty so it’s well worth the little bit of an effort to get 3 years cover on it.

You get 2 blades and a sturdy carry case with it as well as 2 batteries and a quick charge battery charger.

I would say this is more suited to lighter detailed work but it still a powerful jigsaw and it has the capability to cut through wood up to 70mm in depth.

WORX multi-purpose cordless jigsaw model number WX550L

Worx is a well-established power tool company with a good reputation for high-quality power tools and this entry into the top 10 jigsaws is slightly different from the other entries because it doubles as both a jigsaw and a reciprocating saw with a clever pivoting design.

It is a cordless saw with 2 x 2oV long-life lithium batteries and a quick charge charger included.

It’s easy to see why this is a popular jigsaw/saw and don’t let the fact it is both fool you into believing it isn’t a serious jigsaw because it performs extremely well.

It really comes into its own in small tight spaces it is able to cut through a depth of 50mm for wood 4mm for metal and 50mm for plastic pipe in jigsaw mode.

This dual-use saw can cut a large number of items from standard use as a jigsaw for wood to pipe, branches, and metal.

With the dust blower design feature it is easy to stay on track and achieve a precisely finished cut.

It comes with the tool-less blade change feature that many of the better jigsaws have it saves you time and prevents fiddling around trying to get the old blade out time after time when you have different materials to get through.

bThis jigsaw and reciprocating saw combo are very adept for cutting all material wood, metal or plastic and it can get in just about any tight or limited space.

Another good aspect is it takes the standard blades that you can pick up at any hardware store or online.

Fitted with a safety switch helps reduce any chance of any accidental trigger mishaps.

It comes with 3 jigsaw blades, 1 x pruning saw blade and 1 reciprocating saw blade included as well as 2 batteries a charger and a carry case.

BLACK + DECKER Jigsaw model number BDEJS600C with Smart Select

This Black + Decker corded jigsaw is the best low budget jigsaw we have tried.

It has many of the features of the higher-priced jigsaws like variable speed, dust blower, keyless blade change, power lock button and the ability to cut 45-degree angles.

For the price point, it really is hard to pick any fault with this jigsaw the only thing that we could complain about is it doesn’t come with a carry case it just comes as is in the box but that really is a small thing to complain about when you consider this is a very good low budget jigsaw.

It also has the ability to change the blade angle to 4 different settings for extra curve control and is powerful at speeds of up to 3000 spm (strokes per minute).

bIt has a sturdy base and very low vibration motor which translates into a better cut and makes the cutting process much easier than having your hand, wrist, and arm vibrated at 3000 shakes per minute as that can take its toll after a short while.

We really liked the feel of this one as it is easy to hold and very ergonomic and the button is just in the right place although the lock button is slightly hard to engage we feel that is actually a good point because you won’t lock it on by accident making it safer.

It comes with 7ft of power cord and weighs only 5 pounds.

This jigsaw can cut up to 3 inches wood and with the right blades it is fine for cutting metal, it accepts both types of blades but we found it works best with the T-shank blades that are available from all hardware stores and Amazon.

Highlights

Quick blade change

Low vibration

Dust Blower

Variable speeds

45 degree angled cutting

4 blade angle settings for better-curved cutting control

lightweight only 5 pounds

Power lock button

2 Year manufacturers warranty

PORTER-CABLE Orbital Jigsaw Model number PCE345

This offering from Porter-Cable is a good solid choice in the mid budget category.

With the tool-free quick blade change most of us have become accustomed to, the 4 orbital settings mode and the powerful 3200 spm motor it is a decent choice for a budget jigsaw.

The only criticism I have with this jigsaw is there is no dust blowing function and it doesn’t cut at the 45-degree angles that many of its competitors do manage to but we have included it because it’s a good quality jigsaw that made little fuss whilst we used it to cut through wood.

It also did a decent job of clearing the dust with base plate although we would prefer the dust blowing feature because that does a better job of keeping the cutting line clear.

bIts 7-speed control dial integrated into the trigger which gives a lot of control choice for using this jigsaw with different materials.

It feels like it’s a good solid unit that is built to last and it wouldn’t have any problem standing up to heavy use.

It comes with a 7ft power cord, weighs 6 pounds, measures 9.5 x 3 x 8.5 inches and you don’t get a carry case with this jigsaw just the box it arrives in.

It uses the T-shank type blades and comes with 1 rough woodcut blade included in the box.

Highlights

7-speed control

Power lock button

Good solid unit built to last

3200 spm

4 orbital cutting options

Quick tool-less blade change

Low vibration

Light at 6 pounds

Bosch Jigsaw Model number JS260

Another well-earned entry into our top 10 best jigsaws for Bosch.

This one has all the features we have talked about like the quick tool-less blade change, the 4 orbital blade strokes mode, variable speed and accelerator control through the trigger.

It also has an adjustable dust and wood shavings blower which is a nice touch as normally you just get a blow or don’t blow as the option.

It has a heavy gauge metal footplate for added stability and it is a low vibration jigsaw which is one of the most important features for many people who use their jigsaw for long periods not to mention that helps produce a more accurate cut.

With its adjustable base, it is capable of creating beveled cuts and it has the anti-splinter base that also helps produce a nice clean cut.

The power cord is 9ft it weighs 6 pounds and measures 13 x 10 x 4 inches.

The jigsaw is comfortable in the hand with a good ergonomic design which helps for when you have spent long periods cutting with it.

bThis is a powerful jigsaw that is reliable and built for the job, this is a lot of jigsaw for the low-mid price category and gives the Porter Cable jigsaw a good run for its money whilst sitting in the same price category. Tough choice between the 2 we think this just edges because of the extra features but they are quite similar and both are capable jigsaws.

Highlights

Adjustable dust and wood shavings blower

Good solid footplate that is adjustable for beveled cuts

Adjustable speed

4 orbital cutting modes for different strokes

Speed control through the trigger

Anti-splinter cutting

9ft power cord

Low vibration motor

Powerful jigsaw

Takes standard size blades

Makita 18v cordless Jigsaw Model number XVJ03Z

The Makita XVJ03Z gives the Dewalt in this top 10 a lot of competition in the cordless jigsaw category with many of the same features, it is a high-quality jigsaw that would be at home in any professional contractors toolbox.

It has all the good features you would expect from a high-end jigsaw, tool-less blade change, 2 finger variable speed trigger, 3 orbital settings and a heavy gauge metal base for stability.

We found this jigsaw to be very smooth and precise and you get the feeling from using it that it’s really well made and up to the challenge of heavy and continuous use that it will be expected of it from a professional tradesman.

It is quite a heavy unit but that helped it remain stable even when cutting demanding materials like metal.

Like the Dewalt, it is in the higher price range but you would expect that from such a quality engineered jigsaw like this one is.

Unfortunately, just like the Dewalt, we featured in this list it comes as body only and you will need to purchase the battery and charger separately and they are available from Amazon.

bThe low vibration and low noise features really make this a pleasure to work with and it glides over the material you are cutting very nicely.

This is a gold standard cordless jigsaw that sits very high in the ranking of cordless jigsaws and it would worth the price tag for anyone who is going to be a frequent user of a jigsaw.

You really would struggle to choose from this jigsaw and the Dewalt one featured and we think it’s even between these 2 it’s not fair to pick a winner as they are both outstanding.

It would be hard to justify the price for someone who only wanted it now and then for the odd job but continuous use it comes into its own.

Weighing in at just 7 pounds it packs a real amount of power from the 18V lithium battery it runs on.

Highlights

High-quality jigsaw

3 orbital setting modes

quick tool-less blade change

Large 2 finger trigger with speed control

A solid base that glides over anything

Black & Decker Jig Saw Model number BDEJS4C

This our number 1 pick in the low budget jigsaw category because it is incredibly good value for the price.

This is one of the major problems with many of the cheaper jigsaws they are not built to last and they don’t but this one is different and it’s an absolute bargain and is the cheapest jigsaw to make the list.

We are not saying it would be the engineers or carpenters choice because they need a jigsaw that could be being used on difficult and thick materials for 6-8 hours a day 5 days a week but what we are saying is this one will stand up to everyday home use like trimming doors or cutting laminate flooring for long periods and would make a great hobby jigsaw too.

bIt has some really good features but more importantly, it’s a reliable jigsaw that doesn’t suffer from many of the faults the other lower-priced jigsaws suffer from.

For instance, it has variable speed, quick blade change, orbital blade action and it has an adjustable base plate that allows for bevel cuts these are all good features but more importantly, still it’s built to last and it won’t give up after a week of using it.

Absolutely great value for the price.

It is capable of cutting up to 2+1/2 inches wood will cut metal and uses T shank blades and has a 7ft power cord.

It doesn’t come with a carry case just in the box with 1 wood cutting blade.

A very capable jigsaw and it wouldn’t surprise me if it went up in price due to its reliability and the number of happy customers it has acquired.

Highlights

Tool-less blade change

Adjustable base for up to 45-degree bevel cutting

Hoover attachment for dust control

Lightweight 4.5 pounds

Variable speed trigger

Orbital blade strokes for tough materials

Built to last

Sturdy base

Conclusion

There are many features we have discussed in this review but the ones that should be considered the most beneficial when buying a jigsaw are low vibration, power, dust removal, a speed controller and the ability to cut bevels these will be the most important factors for a nice clean and accurate cut no matter what material you are working with and less effort will be needed which is also important if you are working for long periods cutting with the jigsaw.

Always play it safe and wear safety goggles whilst cutting.

Best Corded Angle Grinder Reviews – Grinded Down to the Top 5 Best

Last updated on January 17, 2021 By John

Best Corded Angle Grinder Reviews

If you’re in the research stage of trying to find the best corded angle grinder for the money you will first need to start off with considering what work you are going to be carrying out as this will help you decide which features are the most needed.

Of course, some features are going to be important to all users for example reliability will always be at the top of the list for everyone because it doesn’t matter how powerful or light the grinder is if it’s not going to last 10 minutes it’s going to be useless to you and a waste of your money and your time.

We have used our knowledge of many years of using power tools to cover five of the best products with in-depth research to help you pick a quality product that will do you proud and not leave you with buyer’s remorse.

You will be able to find the one that matches your requirements in one of these products.

We will start with the one that we consider the best rated overall… the DEWALT DWE402 4-1/2In 11 Amp with Paddle Switch Angle Grinder. In our professional opinion, this angle grinder is a really high-quality piece of engineering and a tool that you can trust to not fall short in performance and last you many years of happy cutting or grinding and will also cover 4 more of the best angle grinders that are high-performance tools.

Best Corded Angle Grinder 2021: Top Five Products

1. DEWALT DWE402 4-1/2-Inch 11-Amp – Best Corded Angle Grinder

For high-quality construction and power, the DEWALT DWE402 is a gold standard Angle Grinder power tool and an easy choice for number 1.

Based in the USA, this industrial-quality angle grinder exhibits incredible performance.

For those who don’t know, Dewalt is a well-known brand in the power tool industry. They have seven manufacturing facilities in the USA that produce most of the typically-used power tools out there especially favored by professional contractors owing to the performance and reliability of their power tools. So, the company behind this angle grinder enjoys a shining reputation in the market and it’s easy to see why after just a short time using it.

Product Features:

Let’s drill down into the product specs first, the voltage on this grinder is 120v, 11 Amps, 1400 watts, and it has an impressive and powerful 11,000 RPM (revs per minute) motor.

The power to weight/size ratio of this angle grinder is immediately noticeable and very impressive. It’s so easy to work with because it’s so light and balanced and sits in one hand perfectly.

Given the compact size, it’s also easier than the usual large versions to operate this tool in tight spaces which can be a big advantage for anyone working on machines or vehicles where they don’t have their workpiece conveniently on a work table. It’s also not too heavy for long periods of use and it cuts smoothly with very little vibration passed through the grinder and the material you are working on.

This Dewalt has been designed to withstand the test of time with oversized motor brushes providing double the life span its predecessor the D28402 offered and on top of the improved brushes it has been built with a large spiral bevel gear that increases the grinders transmission life so it has been designed to have a long working life even with sustained and heavy use.

Based on both the price and performance we have chosen it as the best angle grinder out of the 5 that made the list because the others in the same price spectrum don’t have all the features and the over-engineering that this Dewalt has.

Pros:

Unlike some of the lesser quality angle grinders, this one will never burn up when a heavy load is put on it and the angle grinder has a very clever feature that disengages the motor drive to prevent you from damaging the motor and disc.

This is especially important when cutting materials that can cause the grinder disc to snag or bite on the material which is extremely dangerous for the user because the disc is at risk of breaking up and at 11000rpm the bits of the disc disintegrating could cause serious damage to the user, the anti-engage helps prevent this from happening and that is a very important safety feature that we would like to see on every grinder but it’s only really on the better models at the moment.

The tool-less disc change is also a great feature of this grinder especially if you are a heavy user you just press the lock button in and twist the disc to release it and quickly switch discs that will be very attractive to daily users because fiddling about with the grinder key every time you want to renew or change disc type can get a bit tedious after a while.

It has a reliable dust ejection design system that sends the dust, grindings and any hot debris away from the user’s hands or arms plus with its one-touch guard you can easily and quickly keep changing positions which s another convenient and time-saving feature that constant users will appreciate.

The 2 position handle is both convenient and user-friendly.

By looking through all of the feedback and the user’s reviews on this product so we can see it’s long-term performance it’s clear to see it’s considered a very high-quality angle grinder that is loved by the vast majority of its users and it’s been designed to last through a long working life.

Dewalt has stood by their belief in the quality of this product by offering a 3-year limited manufacturer’s warranty. So if in the unlikely event that anything fails on this power tool, you can send it back for treatment and have it repaired for free. Most of the other power tools only offer a 1-year warranty so you can see Dewalt have confidence in the working life of this angle grinder.

Cons:
It’s hard to find any cons for this power tool but and the only thing that we could find slightly disappointing is the fact it doesn’t come with a sturdy carry case just the box it comes in. but that’s not a big drawback for most users who will have their own tool bags and toolboxes.

2. Hitachi G12SR4 4-1/2 Inch – Best Low Priced Angle Grinder

If you are looking for an affordable angle grinder the Hitachi G12SR4 power tool is a good choice.

At 4 lbs, it’s a light and compact angle grinder that is ergonomic

and provides great user control and maneuverability.

Product Features:

Although slightly less power than the Dewalt at 10,000 RPM, it is still up to the job. This angle grinder is built for rugged use. We have found it gets a bit warm with heavy use, but not hot so that’s no biggy.

With the Anti-overheat feature that will shut the grinder down until it cools itself down if it ever reaches a too high temperature,  you won’t ever run the risk of burning the motor out.

It has a 110v, 980W which is not as powerful as the Dewalt but it still packs enough power to be a competent and powerful cutting tool.

Pros:

The Hitachi G12SR4 is a highly versatile power tool. It has various speed capabilities for precise cutting. Better yet, it doesn’t overly vibrate making it less tiring on you and helps to achieve a better cut.

It fits well in the hand, and it has a trigger lock. The trigger lock is smartly located on the side in a position that prevents it from being switched on by accident which is an important safety feature for any grinder to have.

This Hitachi G12SR4 is priced at the lower to the mid-priced range and it comes with five abrasive wheels included in the price. It also comes with a good, solid carry case.

It has a 5 Year manufacturers warranty which is unheard of for power tools and this shows the confidence Hitachi has in this power tools reliability.

Cons:

One thing this grinder does lose points on is the not too detailed user manual and if you are less experienced with angle grinders you might find this to be a bit of a problem. Although better instructions can be found on YouTube so it’s really a minor point. If you have experience of using angle grinders this won’t be an issue as it’s the same set up as 90% of the grinders on the market.

3. PORTER-CABLE PC60TPAG 4-1/2-Inch – Powerful Grinder Tool

This is another great angle grinder in the mid-priced category.

It’s hard to beat this angle grinder for the quality of use to price ratio. It has plenty of power and will stand up to heavy and continuous use without giving up the ghost when you are in the middle of a job and most need it.
It’s another 11,000 RPM beast that is a very capable grinder!

Product Features:

The handle on this angle grinder is made from high-quality plastic that doesn’t flex and this helps distribute all the effort into the grinding.

The product comes with two guards; one for cutting and one for grinding which is a nice addition.

With a 3 Year limited manufacturers warranty, PORTER-CABLE have demonstrated their confidence in this grinders reliability

This unit features a unique 3-position handle for greater control and comfort during use. You don’t have to apply massive amounts of pressure to get the best out of this tool you can let the power do the work.

Pros:

This angle grinder feels great in the hand and is very easy to operate. It features a large paddle switch, which we found was easy to operate even with thick gloves on.

It can withstand heavy and continuous use even professional work-site use won’t be a problem. The PORTER-CABLE PC60TPAG 7-Amp 4-1/2-Inch Angle Grinder will not let you down in the reliability stakes as it’s been built to last and it will withstand heavy use against tough materials.

It comes with a 3 Year limited manufacturer’s warranty which means as long as there are no signs of misuse Porter-Cable with fix the grinder for up to 3 years after purchase if it develops a fault.

Cons:
Not as powerful as the Dewalt and it doesn’t come with a sturdy carry case just comes in a box but it’s lower price tag makes this a great choice still.

4. Makita 9557PBX1 4-1/2-Inch – Best Angle Grinder for Cutting Metal

For a strong performing grinder, the Makita 9557PBX1 4-1/2-Inch Angle Grinder is another bargain. For any sort of metalwork, this product is a really good choice for many reasons. It’s rugged, solid, durable, powerful, and comfortable to use, all at the same time.

It’s another 11000 RPM cutting tool with some clever features that improve its performance and reliability.

It makes easy work of cutting steel and will not let you down in terms of power. It looks, acts, and feels like a high-end product from top to bottom without costing you the top end prices many grinders with matching performance do cost. Makita is a well-known company in the power tool market and has a great reputation for producing long-lasting high-quality tools.

Product Features:

This has a great balance, a good amount of power and we found another good point of this grinder is it’s very quiet for an angle grinder which is rare.

It has a lock on/off that is located in an easy to operate position and it is very well balanced weighing just 4.5 pounds.

Another great detail of this power tool is the kickback prevention feature, which is so very important because it’s much safer to work with a grinder without having to worry about it biting into the cutting material and kicking back and it also reduces the chances of an exploding disc which if you have ever seen a disc brake whilst in use you will know it’s the most terrifying accident that can happen whilst using a grinder and the injuries this can cause vary from having a part of the disc lodged in your body to as bad as a fatal injury.

With its dual ball bearing power transfer system it helps produce an impressive cutting performance, this is one of the better angle grinders you can have in your toolbox and it runs the Dewalt very close for first place.

It’s sealed design prevents dust and small parts from reaching the motor and damaging it and this will help to extend the life of the motors and components of the grinder.

It can easily meet the needs of both occasional users and can stand up to everyday use.

Pros:

It has a big pedal switch, which makes it both safer and easier to operate, just as important it has a low vibration motor which makes cutting easier on your hands and arms especially over long periods and gives you a more precise cut.

We really were impressed with the professional aluminum suitcase-style carry case which helps protect the grinder and helps to keep everything tidy and organized.

For the price, you will struggle to find a better grinder. It’s a hardworking reliable power tool that will provide you with many years of good service.

Cons:

It is only covered by a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty which is adequate but not as good as the 3-year warranty some offer with their power tools.

5. Bosch 1375A 4-1/2″ – Best Budget Angle Grinder

Whilst testing these grinders we came across the Bosch 1375A 4-1/2″ Angle Grinder and we consider this another great option.

Not only is it powerful, but it’s also very easy to work with. This angle grinder is really impressive for its price and the name ‘Bosch’ speaks for itself. Right off the bat, it screams top-quality. For those who are not aware, Bosch is one of the best known and high performing Companies in the power tool domain.

Product Features:

For no-fuss performance, the product comes with a 6.0-Amp motor that delivers an 11000 no-load RPM. It grinds and cuts very impressively and is a popular choice.

The Bosch 1375A 4-1/2″ Angle Grinder has a great handle position and angle that helps increase the operator comfort.

It has a low vibration motor that reduces stress on the arms and hands without sacrificing the performance which is a big plus for frequent users.

Built to withstand heavy and frequent use of grinding and cutting without any chance of burning the motor out or reduced performance. It’s perfect for casual or heavy use.

This is another quality built to last grinder packed with features that help it achieve high performance and reliability.

Pros:

At 3.75 lbs, it’s very light for a product of this nature. Given its compact built and its lightweight, it makes you appreciate how good this angle grinder is and it came into its own when we were using this angle grinder with just one hand.

The product’s longevity cannot be doubted it has been designed and built for use at home and for tough tasks in the workshop.

There’s not too much of a performance gap between the Bosch 1375A 4-1/2″ Angle Grinder and the models that cost considerably more than the price of this product.

Cons:

Slightly noisier than some of the low noise grinders on the market but I put that down to the power output this grinder produces.

Only a 1-year warranty.

No carry case just the box it arrives in.

Best Angle Grinder Conclusion

So that concludes our list for the best angle grinders and we hope we have helped you to find the correct one for your needs.

For heavy use, the Dewalt is going to be hard to beat but we have been careful to select the top performers in this category so you can’t go far wrong with any of the choices in the top 5.

Many good grinders didn’t make it into this list because we only chose the ones with the best features and highest reliability factors that have pasted the test of time.

Angle Grinder Disc Sizes

The most common sizes available in the market are 4-1/2-inch, 5-inch, 6-inch, 7-inch, and 9-inches. For the majority of the common applications, a disc size of 7 or below should suffice. Only for larger cuts, you might have to choose an angle grinder with a larger disc size.

So, depending on the work that needs to be done, you will have to carefully handpick a product with the right disc size for the depth you require.

Angle Grinder Motor

We don’t need to tell you that you should never buy a grinder with an underpowered motor. After all, it will just fail terribly, cause you to waste time/effort and if it has a low powered motor they usually fail pretty quickly. It’s always best to go for a motor that has at least 10000 RPM.

It’s also worth mentioning that the anti-kickback feature on some grinders
is a very important feature as it lowers the change of an accident and reduces the dreaded disc explosion that at 11000rpm can be deadly.

Low vibration motors are also a big plus for users that are spending large amounts of time cutting and grinding and if you are going to be using the grinder more frequently you should consider it as important to find one of these models.

Disc Guard

The Disc Guard will offer the operator protection from sparks and dust during work. Keep in mind that the disc guard should be easily adjustable so that you can change its position to keep yourself protected from sparks and debris at all times no matter what position you are working in and without too much effort.

Loud Noise

Angle grinders are noisy by nature due to the grinder causing friction whilst in cutting through or polishing up the metal so we feel it’s less important how quiet the motor is because when you are cutting, grinding or polishing it will make a decent amount of noise and there is no way to prevent that. The only solution is to be sensible and wear ear defenders whilst grinding.

Durability

An angle grinder is supposed to handle hardcore tasks day in day out so it’s important it’s up to the task and has a good working life so the focus should be on finding a tough hard-wearing model with internal as well as external durability.

Buying one with a 3-year warranty and a good reputation would be our advice.

Ergonomics

Don’t get an angle grinder that weighs a ton, especially if you are a heavy user. You will find it generates too much stress on your hands, arms, shoulders and even back.
A lightweight and well-balanced tool is much easier to control and can give you a better-finished cut or polish. Also, pay attention to the handle of the tool. It shouldn’t be made of cheap plastic, or it will bend or break.

Safety

Always wear the appropriate PPE: safety goggles, tough overhalls, ear defenders and a good pair of protective gloves.

In my years working on various work sites from building sites to industrial sites, I have witnessed a wide range of injuries that could have been prevented.

I witnessed a workmate get a metal shard fired into his eye from grinding without goggles and he eventually had to have his eye removed.

I have also seen many injuries that could have been prevented and seen some serious wounds from people being careless and not having the safety guard set upright.

Conclusion

We hope that our knowledge and expertise will help you find the perfect grinder.

If you are still unsure of anything or you are interested in soaking up some more information on the subject of the best angle grinders, please do comment below and we will use our combined experience of 50 years of using power tools to help you make the right decision.
